Exploring quality of life perception in people with epilepsy and people imagining life with epilepsy

ObjectiveEpilepsy is a condition associated with high levels of stigma. Quality life (QoL) reportedly diminished in people epilepsy worldwide. The purpose our study was to describe and compare the self-reported QoL imagining epilepsy.MethodsIn this exploratory, observational study, global quality perception assessed through single question (Q1 QOLIE-31), consisting 0–10 points- Likert scale. Answers were obtained from 94 adult patients 417 individuals without epilepsy: 41 university students/graduates attending summer school on epilepsy, 108 police officer trainees, 268 agent trainees. Descriptive statistics applied.ResultsMedian values 8 found for self-perception current all groups. Non-epilepsy participants’ estimates their case they had consistently decreased, median 6 7 reported by trainees respectively, 5 group young health-related professionals specializing epilepsy. Participants perceived daily living domains work independence as those more likely be affected having addition most them expected an impact mood health status.ConclusionsThe imagined experience worse than patients. Further studies are needed unveil whether lowest scores related higher self-expectations subgroup, or could have been favoured medical training potential stigma perpetuation
